Braunschweig café owner announces expansion after pandemic struggles

Birol Acar, the owner of Cafe Tante Emmelie in Braunschweig, has announced plans to expand his business following a period of significant financial hardship. After taking over the café near the city center in September 2021, Acar faced severe challenges due to COVID-19 restrictions, specifically the 2G-plus regulations that limited visitor numbers.

Acar reported having to sell his personal vehicle to cover rent and operational costs during the most difficult periods. The business stabilized through catering orders and wedding assignments, leading to the current decision to expand into an adjacent building. The owner has invited customers to share suggestions for the new space.
