Braunschweig CDU calls for demolition of new city hall

In Braunschweig, the CDU city council faction has renewed its demand to demolish the new city hall building, which was completed in 1969. The faction argues that demolition would enhance the Bohlweg area and create a more attractive entrance to the city center.

This proposal coincides with the city's plan to purchase a Sparkasse building on Dankwardstraße from Nord/LB. The administration intends to convert this building into an administrative headquarters for the residents' registration office and other departments. This potential relocation may influence decisions regarding the renovation of the existing new city hall, as the city evaluates whether the funds originally intended for the city hall's renovation could be redirected.
