Braunschweig residents face evacuation over suspected WWII bomb

Authorities in Braunschweig are preparing for a large-scale evacuation following the discovery of a suspected World War II unexploded bomb. Approximately 4,200 residents in the areas of Leiferde, Stöckheim, and parts of Rüningen are required to leave their homes by 8:00 AM on Friday, October 16.

The suspected ordnance was identified during systematic probing operations. To safely excavate and defuse the device, a one-kilometer radius around the site must be cleared. While the find is located on non-residential, non-public land, the potential for explosion necessitates the preemptive evacuation. Several major roads, including Leipziger Straße and Schenkendamm, will also face closures during the operation.
