Brazil: 13-year-old footballer killed in fight, 7-year-old drowns at water park

In the state of Bahia, 13-year-old Alerrandro Marques de Sousa died after being assaulted during a football match in Luís Eduardo Magalhães. He suffered head injuries after a 15‑year‑old opponent struck him, was hospitalized for ten days, and later died at the Hospital do Oeste in Barreiras. His family is demanding a thorough investigation and accountability.

In Pernambuco, a 7‑year‑old boy drowned in a pool at the Olinda Via Park water‑park on the Perimetral of Olinda. The child’s family claims the pool lacked proper depth markings and that lifeguards were distracted. Despite being taken to a local emergency unit, the child could not be revived. The park has been closed pending further inquiries.

Both incidents have prompted local authorities to open investigations and have raised concerns about safety measures for youth activities in Brazil.
