Brazil's 2026 election party conventions start July 20

From 20 July to 5 August 2026, Brazil’s political parties and federations will hold mandatory conventions to name their candidates for the presidential, gubernatorial, Senate, federal and state legislative races. The events may be conducted in‑person, virtually or in hybrid format, and must be recorded in the electronic CANDex system and sent to the regional electoral courts the following day. After the conventions, parties have until 15 August to submit formal candidacy requests and campaign finance registration, with official electoral propaganda permitted from 16 August. The conventions also serve to formalise major‑party alliances and meet gender‑quota requirements for proportional lists. While most parties have already scheduled their meetings, several state‑level contests—particularly in Minas Gerais, Rio de Janeiro and Alagoas—remain undecided, shaping the strategic landscape ahead of the October vote.
