Brazil Opens 2026 Party Conventions Monday, Candidate Lists Due by Aug 5
On Monday, 20 July, Brazil’s political parties began a nationwide series of conventions to register candidate slates for the 2026 general election. The electoral calendar allows conventions to run until 5 August, after which party lists must be officially submitted.
Regional events include a convention for the Hildon Chaves party in Rondônia and a marathon of conventions in Pernambuco. Several parties used the opening sessions to formalise nominations, such as the PSDB’s Vicentinho and other candidates slated for the upcoming ballot. The schedule marks a key step in Brazil’s election timeline, as parties must finalise their tickets before the electoral authority’s deadline.
