As Brazil approaches the 2026 elections, various institutional and civil society initiatives are launching to safeguard democratic integrity. The Regional Electoral Court of Minas Gerais (TRE-MG) has introduced the '+ Diálogo + Democracia' campaign, which aims to promote peaceful coexistence and combat issues such as gender-based political violence, electoral harassment, disinformation, and hate speech.

In support of these efforts, the Pacto pela Democracia—a coalition of over 200 civil society organizations—is issuing a manifesto to defend the electoral process and protect national sovereignty against disinformation and political violence. Additionally, a journalistic coalition known as the Electoral Investigation Laboratory (LIE), comprising Agência Pública, Amado Mundo, Aos Fatos, and Núcleo Jornalismo, has been formed to collaboratively investigate disinformation campaigns and the impact of artificial intelligence on the election.

On the regulatory front, the 2026 electoral campaign enters a new phase as general propaganda is permitted nationwide starting August 16. The deadline for candidate registration with the Electoral Justice is August 15, 2026.
