Brazil's Federal Police allocate R$95 million for 2026 presidential candidate security

The Federal Police (PF) will launch a nationwide security operation on 20 July 2026, coinciding with the start of party conventions that formalise presidential candidacies. The scheme is budgeted at roughly R$ 95 million and is designed to protect up to ten presidential candidates simultaneously.

Up to 458 specially trained agents will be deployed across all states. Each candidate will receive an individual risk‑based plan that may employ armored vehicles, ballistic vests, anti‑drone systems, facial‑recognition tools, bomb‑inspection kits and other high‑tech equipment. The operation will be coordinated from a National Command and Control Center in Brasília and will work in tandem with state and municipal security forces.

Participation is optional; candidates must request the service after their nominations are officially homologated. The PF says the same technical criteria will be applied to all campaigns, but the exact number of agents and threat levels for each candidate will remain confidential for operational security. More than 600 officers were trained in vehicle handling, first aid, drone operation and related skills ahead of the rollout.
