Brazil: 87% of drivers consider electric vehicle purchase
A survey conducted by Instituto Locomotiva reveals that 87% of Brazilian drivers would consider purchasing an electric vehicle. The primary driver for this interest is the potential for fuel savings, cited by 78% of respondents.
Despite the high interest, economic barriers remain a significant hurdle. While 76% of participants believe electric cars will pay for themselves in the long term, the high initial purchase price prevents many from making the transition. Specifically, 84% of those surveyed stated they would certainly consider an electric model if the price were more affordable.
Renato Meirelles, president of Instituto Locomotiva, noted that while electric vehicles are on the horizon for Brazilian consumers, the current high entry price creates a gap between interest and actual access. The survey included 1,300 drivers interviewed digitally in early July.
