Brazil accelerates clean‑energy and maritime decarbonisation with new tech at Web Summit Rio
At the Web Summit Rio 2026, Brazilian startups showcased technologies aimed at cutting carbon emissions. Carrot uses blockchain‑based methane‑reduction credits to finance biogas projects that could meet 25‑34 % of global fossil‑energy demand. Enerlink applies data analytics and AI to improve financing and efficiency of more than 200 000 clean‑energy projects worldwide, many in Africa. Solfácil, a fintech, has financed over R$ 6 billion in distributed solar installations for households and small businesses.
In parallel, Brazil is promoting maritime infrastructure to lower emissions in the oil‑and‑gas supply chain. Initiatives such as the Brazilian Alliance for Port Decarbonisation and the use of renewable drop‑in fuels like HVO at the Porto do Açu, together with on‑shore power supply (OPS) for docked vessels, aim to cut carbon intensity by up to 80‑100 %.
Both efforts reflect a broader push for decentralised, data‑driven, and low‑carbon energy solutions across the country.
