Brazil activates FGTS Calamity withdrawals for flood‑affected workers

The federal government, through Caixa Econômica Federal, has authorized workers in Brazil to request a special FGTS Calamity withdrawal after floods were officially declared disasters. In Porto Velho, Rondônia, residents of flood‑impacted neighborhoods can apply via the FGTS mobile app, with the request window open until 17 September 2026. Documentation must include a valid ID and proof of residence in the affected area, which may be a utility bill or a municipal declaration.

Similarly, 26 municipalities in the state of Pará have been enabled for the same benefit. Eligible workers may withdraw up to R$ 6,220 per linked FGTS account, limited by the balance available. Each city has its own deadline, ranging from July 2026 to early September 2026. Applications are submitted through the FGTS app or in person, requiring identification, recent proof of residence, and, when necessary, a declaration from the local mayor’s office.
