Brazil sets school break and national holidays for 2027 Women's World Cup

A new federal law aligns Brazil's winter school vacation with the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup, scheduled for 24 June – 25 July 2027. The legislation applies to both public and private schools and authorises the federal government to decree national holidays on days the Brazilian women’s national team plays. State and municipal authorities in the eight host cities may also declare local holidays or optional days off.

The tournament will feature 32 national teams playing 64 matches in Belo Horizonte, Brasília, Fortaleza, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Salvador and São Paulo. As the first South American nation to host the women’s World Cup, Brazil automatically qualifies. The change is intended to maximise public engagement and accommodate the massive crowds expected across the country.
