Brazil adopts AI to boost road safety and traffic efficiency

Artificial intelligence is increasingly used in Brazil’s road transport sector to cut accidents, cargo theft and driver fatigue. A CNI survey found 62 % of Brazilian industries report rising security costs, prompting logistics firms to install AI‑driven cameras that detect drowsiness, phone use and abrupt maneuvers, and to employ predictive routing that blends traffic, weather and crime data. Companies such as Patrus Transportes have rolled out internal AI programs to improve operations, workforce scheduling and overall safety.

The same technology is being applied to urban traffic management. Adaptive traffic lights, powered by real‑time sensor feeds, adjust signal timing to traffic flow, while AI‑enabled cameras spot risky driving behavior and help authorities intervene before accidents occur. Predictive analytics forecast congestion and emissions, allowing cities to reroute traffic and lower fuel consumption. Together, these AI tools aim to create safer, more efficient roadways and reduce environmental impact.
