Brazil boosts social aid with higher Bolsa Família payouts, BPC WhatsApp notices, and ProBem scholarships

The federal government has raised the monthly Bolsa Família payment to R$697.77 starting in June 2026 and established a staggered payment calendar based on the final digit of beneficiaries’ NIS, with payments running from 17 June to 30 June. Some families receive up to R$1,000 when additional allowances for children, pregnant women and adolescents are applied.

A new rule requires the Institute of Social Security (INSS) to send WhatsApp messages to applicants who have a scheduled social evaluation for the Benefício de Prestação Continuada (BPC). The messages confirm appointment details and send reminders to reduce missed attendances.

The Ministry of Development and Fight against Hunger warned around 177 000 families that they must return incorrectly received Auxílio Emergencial funds, offering a repayment portal and up to 60 installments.

In Goiás, the ProBem program opened applications for 4 000 university scholarships – 1 000 full and 3 000 partial – targeting students in vulnerable situations, with amounts up to R$1,500 per month and access to a job‑matching platform.

An agreement between the Attorney General’s Office, the Public Defender’s Office, INSS and the social assistance ministry ensures that families continue receiving Bolsa Família while their BPC requests are under review.
