Brazil advances agrarian reform through new settlements and agricultural fairs

The Brazilian government is advancing agrarian reform initiatives through new land settlements and agricultural fairs. In Minas Gerais, the Ministry of Agrarian Development and Family Farming is establishing the Terra Prometida settlement at the site of the former Felisburgo Massacre. This follows a 2025 decree by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva to expropriate the area for social interest. Additionally, the ministry is delivering land titles (CCUs) to settlers in the Campo do Meio and Ariadnópolis areas.

In Alagoas, the Land Reform Movement (MST) is hosting its 25th Agrarian Reform Fair in Maceió. The event, held at Praça dos Martírios, features approximately 150 vendors selling diverse produce such as tubers, fruits, and vegetables. The fair includes seminars, a plant nursery, and solidarity economy enterprises, aiming to connect rural producers with urban consumers.
