Brazil advances alphanumeric CNPJ rollout, early migration schedule announced

The Federal Data Processing Service (Serpro) is accelerating technical steps for Brazil's transition to an alphanumeric CNPJ system. After testing and validation, Serpro advised the Federal Revenue Service to move forward part of the migration schedule to better distribute technical procedures and reduce operational risk.

The revised timeline sets the CNPJ database to be query‑only from 21:00 on 23 July 2026 until 07:00 on 25 July 2026. From 07:00 on 25 July the database will be fully unavailable for the final migration procedures. Systems are slated to enter production at 07:00 on 27 July 2026, with the first alphanumeric CNPJ issued on 31 July 2026. Applications not yet adapted to the new format may experience failures after 27 July.

All other conditions from the earlier “Scheduled Shutdown for Alphanumeric CNPJ Implementation” notice remain unchanged.
