Brazil advances ESG regulations and climate fund investments

Brazil is implementing new regulatory frameworks to integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria into corporate strategy. Starting in 2026, all publicly traded companies will be required to report emission inventories and publish sustainability reports aligned with international standards. This move aims to increase market access, attract foreign investment, and reduce operational risks by providing transparent, homogeneous metrics for investors.

Complementing these regulatory shifts, the National Climate Change Fund (Fundo Clima) is playing a critical role in financing Brazil's productive development and energy transition. The National Confederation of Industry (CNI) noted a significant increase in fund resources, rising from R$ 0.9 billion in 2023 to R$ 12.5 billion in 2025.

Investments from the fund are primarily directed toward infrastructure and industry, specifically focusing on green industry and energy transition. These efforts have contributed to the replacement of 32,000 tons of oil equivalent from fossil fuels and have expanded renewable energy capacities, including solar, wind, and biofuels.
