Brazil advances international agreements with Croatia and Guyana

The Brazilian Senate has made progress on two distinct international cooperation agreements. The Plenary approved a legislative decree regarding a cultural cooperation agreement between Brazil and Croatia. Signed in 2023, the pact aims to establish frameworks for cooperation in areas including cultural policies, language, literature, heritage, museums, libraries, and the creative industries, as well as intellectual property and cultural entrepreneurship.

Separately, the Senate's Foreign Relations and National Defense Commission approved a military cooperation agreement between Brazil and Guyana. The agreement, originally signed in 2009, seeks to facilitate joint actions regarding border security and the fight against transnational crimes. The cooperation includes research, logistical support, defense product acquisition, and knowledge exchange. The move has gained renewed relevance due to regional tensions involving Venezuela and the discovery of oil off the coast of Guyana. The text must still proceed to the Senate Plenary for approval.
