Brazil advances laws mandating traffic‑camera photos and criminalising image sharing of accidents

Brazil's Chamber of Deputies approved a bill that makes it mandatory to attach a photograph of a traffic violation captured by video‑monitoring equipment to the driver’s notification, extending the requirement to penalty notices as well. The proposal, aimed at increasing transparency and legal certainty for motorists, now awaits final review by the Constitution and Citizenship Committee before moving to the Senate and presidential sanction.

The Federal Senate passed a separate bill that criminalises the photographing, filming or dissemination of images of corpses or accident victims without authorization. Offenders face six months to two years of imprisonment and fines, with exemptions for public‑interest journalism, consent from the victim, or use in judicial proceedings. The measure will return to the Chamber of Deputies for further consideration before possible enactment.
