Brazil advances livestock genetics and meat export markets

Brazil's agribusiness sector continues to see significant developments in both genetic technology and international trade. Embrapa Cerrados is hosting the 10th Nelore BRGN Auction in Brasília, featuring 79 Nelore cattle. These animals are the result of 25 years of genetic selection aimed at improving productivity, maternal ability, and meat tenderness, specifically adapted to the Cerrado biome.

On the trade front, Brazilian meat exports remain a cornerstone of the economy. Frozen beef is a primary driver, generating US$ 16.59 billion, with China serving as the largest buyer, accounting for 63.7% of these exports. The United States is the second-largest market for frozen beef at 8.7%, highlighting a reliance on Brazilian products for the American hamburger industry despite high tariffs.
