Brazil Advances Major Rail Concession and Completes Cross‑Border Bridge

Brazil's rail network will be operated by Trivia Trens, which has taken over CPTM lines 11 (Coral), 12 (Safira) and 13 (Jade) as well as the Express Airport service. The 25‑year concession includes a R$ 14.3 billion investment plan to modernise infrastructure, extend the network by more than 25 km, add eight new stations and raise daily ridership capacity from roughly 900 000 to 1.3 million passengers by 2040. Prior to the official hand‑over, the operator already completed upgrades at 23 of the 29 stations, improving lighting, accessibility and safety.

A separate infrastructure milestone is the completion of the bridge deck for the Bioceanic Route Bridge over the Paraguay River, linking Porto Murtinho in Brazil’s Mato Grosso do Sul with Carmelo Peralta in Paraguay. The 1 294‑metre structure, the third and longest Brazil‑Paraguay crossing, has had its two sections joined – a moment dubbed the “beijo das aduelas”. Final access works remain, so the bridge is slated to open to traffic in 2027 after paving, safety systems and related works are finished.
