Brazil ramps up road and bridge projects with billions in investments

The Nova Rota do Oeste concessionaire, managing the BR‑163 corridor in Mato Grosso, accounted for 28% of all federal highway concession investments in 2025, spending R$ 2.1 billion on duplication, safety structures and rehabilitation. In 2025 alone, 130 km of duplicated road were delivered, bringing the total to 230 km and cutting fatalities on the Diamantino‑Nova Mutum stretch by 95% compared with 2023. The operator plans to invest R$ 10.3 billion through 2029 to further expand capacity and safety.

In Espírito Santo, the state government approved a R$ 15 million project to add a fifth lane to the Segunda Ponte (Ponte do Príncipe), modernise lighting and signage, and replace central barriers, with completion targeted for December 2026.

Santa Catarina’s Serra do Corvo Branco on the SC‑370 will see more than R$ 50 million in concrete paving, drainage and slope‑stabilisation works, with traffic expected to resume on one lane in July 2026 and full completion by the end of 2026.

In Pernambuco, a new R$ 5 million bridge over the Rio Comandatuba in Porto Calvo was inaugurated, eliminating recurring flood‑related closures on BR‑465 and improving local mobility for over 500 residents.

Minas Gerais authorised a R$ 16 million construction of an 80‑metre bridge over the Rio São João on MG‑430, restoring a key link for roughly 600 000 citizens after the former bridge collapsed in 2023.

In Curitiba, the transport of 50 massive pre‑cast concrete beams—totaling 2 450 tonnes—to the new Viaduto Curitiba‑Pinhais required temporary road closures and coordinated utility shutdowns, marking a critical phase of the Novo Inter 2 corridor expansion.
