Brazil advances municipal finance tools and academia‑government partnership

On August 14, 2024, FIA Business School hosted the “Securitização na Prática” event in São Paulo, supported by the Associação Paulista de Municípios (APM). The free, one‑day meeting gathered municipal finance managers, specialists and practitioners to discuss the practical use of securitization for small‑city investments and fiscal efficiency. APM president Fred Guidoni urged local leaders to attend and explore the legal and governance aspects of turning assets or credits into financial resources.

Separately, the State Treasury of Paraná presented the Medal of Merit Fazendário to the Department of Economics at the Universidade Estadual de Ponta Grossa (UEPG). The award recognized the department’s partnership with the state’s finance secretariat and the Science, Technology and Higher Education Secretariat (SETI) in creating graduate programs and training public servants for better fiscal management. The ceremony took place during the 7th Paraná Macro‑Fiscal Forum and featured remarks from Treasury Secretary Norberto Ortigara and Treasury Director Carin Deda.
