Brazil advances repairs on critical bridges in Rio Grande do Sul and Bahia

In Rio Grande do Sul, the bridge on state highway ERS‑129 between Encantado and Muçum has been closed since last week. The local industry chamber CIC‑VT, led by president Angelo Fontana, carried out a technical inspection, topographic survey and preliminary assessment to propose traffic detours and guide the required structural reinforcement. Fontana said, “The blockage of the ERS‑129 bridge directly impacts mobility, cargo transport and the regional economy, each day of interruption causing losses for businesses, workers and the community.”

Separately, Brazil’s federal road agency DNIT signed an R$11.16 million contract with CBV Construtora Ltda. to rehabilitate the Rio Paramirim bridge on BR‑242 near Oliveira dos Brejinhos, Bahia. The bridge, 152.4 m long, received a critical grade‑1 rating in a 2023 assessment, prompting urgent repair work that will include design, engineering studies and full‑scale reconstruction. The agreement runs until October 2027 and aims to restore a key link between central Bahia, the Chapada Diamantina region and the state’s western area.
