Brazil advances senior housing and longevity legislation

The municipal council of Limeira, Brazil, approved Project Law No. 74/2026, creating a special urban typology called "Vila Residencial Sênior." The scheme defines low‑density, ground‑floor condominium villages of 10 to 30 units, each 28–45 m², with mandatory accessibility features, communal areas covering at least 5 % of built space, reduced private parking and guaranteed emergency‑vehicle access.

At the federal level, Bill 107/26, currently under analysis in the Chamber of Deputies, proposes a National Longevity Policy (PNL) for citizens aged 60 and over. The draft aims to promote dignity, health, autonomy, security and social participation, and would establish a National Longevity Commission comprising ministries, the National Council for the Rights of the Elderly and civil‑society groups, as well as a Longevity Information System to collect and disseminate data. The bill complements existing elderly policies and must be approved by both chambers to become law.
