Brazil advances sustainable fishing research and clean energy technology

The Brazilian Ministry of Fishing and Aquaculture is advancing research and sustainable development initiatives across the country. In the Amazon region, Minister Edipo Araujo met with the Federal University of Amazonas (UFAM) to discuss the impacts of El Niño and review decentralized execution terms focused on the sustainable management of migratory species and Piracatinga fishing.

Simultaneously, a partnership between the Ministry and the Federal University of Juiz de Fora (UFJF) is testing new technologies to reduce noise and emissions in fishing vessels. This project, currently being implemented in the South and Southeast regions, utilizes electric winch motors to promote an energy transition within artisanal fishing communities. The initiative aims to integrate scientific knowledge with the practical expertise of local fishermen to ensure technological solutions are socioeconomically viable.
