Brazil advances urban mobility projects in Salvador and Aracaju

Brazil is advancing two major urban mobility projects in the Northeast. In Salvador, the City Hall has opened an international bidding process for the ‘Teleférico do Subúrbio’ project. The tender, valued at approximately R$ 20.1 million, seeks to hire technical advisory services for the planning, programming, and analysis of the first line, which will run between Campinas de Pirajá and Praia Grande. The contract is expected to last 46 months and will involve technical supervision, commissioning, and support for assisted operations.

In the Greater Aracaju region, the Ministry of Transport and the Sergipe State Government have signed a technical cooperation agreement to study the implementation of a Light Rail Vehicle (VLT) system. Supported by the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the project involves an estimated investment of over US$ 140 million. The plan aims to repurpose approximately 40 km of existing, currently inactive railway tracks to serve Aracaju, São Cristóvão, Nossa Senhora do Socorro, and Laranjeiras. The project is intended to serve as a pilot for reusing railway lines in other Brazilian regions.
