Brazil advances varicose‑vein treatment with minimally invasive laser techniques

Brazilian vascular specialists report that endolaser therapy and the total thermal ablation assisted (ATTA) technique now allow most varicose‑vein cases to be treated on an outpatient basis, eliminating the need for conventional surgery and lengthy recovery periods. Dr. Leandro Avelar, a vascular surgeon, notes that patients no longer have to endure extensive cuts, anesthesia or long periods of rest, and many can resume normal activities quickly.

The Brazilian Society of Angiology and Vascular Surgery estimates that varicose veins affect about 38% of the population—approximately 30% of men and 45% of women—with prevalence rising to 70% in people over 70. The shift to minimally invasive, laser‑based procedures is expected to reduce complications such as thrombophlebitis, skin changes, venous ulcers and bleeding, while improving overall vascular health.
