Brazil aging population drives growth in preventive health market

Brazil is experiencing an accelerated demographic transition as life expectancy at birth rose to 76.6 years in 2024, up from 71.1 years in 2000, according to IBGE data. The population of people aged 60 or older has nearly doubled, reaching 33 million, or 15.6% of the total population.

Projections suggest the population will peak in 2041, and by 2070, approximately 37.8% of Brazilians will be aged 60 or older. This shift toward an aging population is driving a move from curative medicine to preventive health.

This trend is significantly impacting the economy. The Brazilian wellness market, valued at US$ 91.3 billion in 2025, is expected to reach US$ 222.4 billion by 2034, with an average annual growth of 10.4%. The dietary supplement segment has seen an 18% annual growth rate between 2020 and 2026, positioning Brazil as the third-largest global market in terms of demand expansion.
