Brazil agribusiness targets productivity and regulatory alignment with China
The Brazilian agribusiness sector is focusing on increasing productivity through technology and improved management of existing cultivated areas to reduce reliance on territorial expansion. At the Top Ciência 2026 event, experts discussed the integration of science and digital innovation to address challenges such as pests, diseases, and sustainability.
BASF Soluções para Agricultura highlighted the importance of translating scientific advances into field applications, citing innovations like the Pavecto® fungicide and the NRS (Nematode Resistant System) for soybean resistance.
Simultaneously, the regulatory relationship between Brazil and China regarding biotechnology remains a critical factor for trade. Current data suggests a gap in approval timelines for genetically modified organisms, with Chinese authorizations often occurring four to six years after Brazilian ones. A study by Céleres indicates that greater regulatory convergence could potentially increase Brazilian exports by up to US$1.5 billion annually, specifically benefiting soybean, corn, and cotton production.
