Brazil agricultural and environmental policy trends

In Brazil, environmental issues have seen a significant decline in legislative priority, with a report from the Instituto Democracia e Sustentabilidade showing that environmental topics lost 70% of their presence in 66 analyzed nominal votes in Congress between 2023 and July 2026.

In the agricultural sector, the use of bioinputs reached 46 million hectares in the first half of the year, representing an 18.3% annual increase and a market value of R$ 1.8 billion. Additionally, Brazil is projected to achieve a record coffee harvest of 67.6 million bags due to favorable climate and technological investments.

Conversely, timber production for paper and cellulose purposes fell by 9.8% in 2025, a decline IBGE attributes to reduced exports following the imposition of tariffs by the United States. Meanwhile, Abipesca has proposed targets to presidential candidates to increase fish production and exports to US$ 3 billion annually within four years through improved infrastructure and market access.
