Brazilian agribusiness sees 21% drop in judicial recovery filings
Brazilian agribusiness recorded 448 judicial recovery requests in the second quarter of 2026, representing a 20.7% decrease compared to the same period last year. This decline follows a multi-year upward trend in filings and marks a 5.5% reduction from the first quarter of the same year.
Serasa Experian noted that while the decrease is a favorable sign, it does not necessarily confirm a widespread financial recovery across the sector. The data tracks both individual and corporate rural producers and companies within the agricultural chain. The reduction may be linked to incoming revenue, seasonal activity calendars, and renegotiations with creditors.
During the same period, the Brazilian economy showed expansion, with the agricultural sector's GDP growing 2.8% compared to the previous quarter. However, experts caution that economic growth alone does not guarantee debt repayment capacity, which remains influenced by commodity prices, operational costs, interest rates, and accumulated debt.
