Brazil's Electoral Fund to allocate nearly R$5 billion to 30 parties for 2026 election

The Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE) announced that the 2026 Electoral Fund will distribute almost R$5 billion to the 30 parties registered in Brazil. Allocation is based on each party's representation in Congress, with the Liberal Party (PL) receiving the largest share—about R$881.6 million—followed by the Workers' Party (PT) at roughly R$615.3 million and União Brasil at R$526.2 million. Together, these three parties account for nearly 40 % of the total fund.

Five parties—PL, PT, União Brasil, PSD and PP—each will obtain more than the annual budget of over 90 % of Brazilian municipalities, totaling R$2.86 billion, which represents 57.7 % of the fund. The distribution formula includes a 2 % equal share for all parties, with the remaining amount allocated according to the number of deputies and senators each party elected in the 2022 election.

The fund, created in 2017 after the prohibition of corporate campaign donations, must be used exclusively for campaign financing, and parties are required to disclose how the resources are spent.
