Brazilian governors launch major hospital upgrades in Paraíba, Goiás and São Paulo
On 3 July, federal deputy Ricardo Ayres attended the opening of the new Hospital do Bico Dr Adoniran Paula de Castro in Praia Norte, Paraíba, highlighting its role in expanding regional public‑health capacity.
The same day Governor Lucas Ribeiro of Paraíba delivered the first phase of a R$ 2.2 million renovation at the João Pessoa Trauma Hospital, adding 45 new beds and modernising electricity, climate‑control and fire‑suppression systems.
Governor Daniel Vilela of Goiás signed a service order for a R$ 227 million expansion of the Hospital Estadual de Jataí Dr Serafim de Carvalho, increasing total beds from 128 to 230, expanding ICU capacity, and adding specialised maternal‑infant, neonatal and cardiovascular services.
Mayor Toninho Colucci of Ilhabela inaugurated a new six‑bed intensive‑care unit and a dedicated pediatric emergency department at Hospital Mário Covas Jr., part of the largest modernisation project ever undertaken for the municipality’s health system.
