Mato Grosso government to add roundabouts and turnbacks at state highway junctions with BR‑070
The Mato Grosso state government pledged to improve safety on the federal highway BR‑070 by constructing roundabouts, turnbacks and other access works at its intersections with state roads MT‑453, MT‑140, MT‑244 and MT‑403. The measures, announced by Infrastructure and Logistics Secretary Marcelo de Oliveira during a Senate Infrastructure Committee public hearing in Primavera do Leste, aim to prevent accidents as truck traffic is expected to rise after the inauguration of a new railway terminal in Dom Aquino on 20 June.
Oliveira said the projects have received approval from Governor Otaviano Pivetta and that he has asked the federal agency DNIT for authorization to carry out the works, which are separate from the federal proposal to duplicate BR‑070. The state’s commitment seeks to address safety concerns at key junctions while the broader duplication study proceeds.
The announcement follows a Senate‑led delegation that inspected the BR‑070 corridor between Barra do Garças and Primavera do Leste, highlighting the need for immediate safety upgrades ahead of the expected increase in freight movements.
