Brazil and China discuss technological cooperation in Beijing

Celso Amorim, special advisor to Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, visited Beijing to discuss expanding technological cooperation between Brazil and China. During meetings with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi, Amorim delivered a letter from President Lula to President Xi Jinping.

Key areas for potential collaboration include artificial intelligence, supercomputing, space technology, satellites, critical minerals, and rare earths. Amorim emphasized that while Brazil seeks to expand these technological ties, it is essential to preserve Brazilian autonomy. He specifically noted an interest in working together on open-source artificial intelligence based on acceptable ethical standards.

Chinese officials stated that the relationship between the two nations has evolved from a comprehensive strategic partnership toward a ‘community of shared future.’ Wang Yi also highlighted the importance of China-Brazil coordination in promoting the unity of the Global South.
