Brazil and China establish AI cooperation body while expanding beef trade

Brazil and China led the signing of a treaty in Shanghai to create the World Cooperation Organization on Artificial Intelligence, a multilateral body that includes 30 founding nations from Africa, Asia, Europe and the Americas. The organization aims to treat AI as a global public good, reduce the digital divide and ensure equitable technology transfer, with support from UN Secretary‑General António Guterres.

At the same time, Chinese officials reiterated their willingness to deepen economic ties with Brazil after Brazilian beef shipments reached 80% of the quota allocated by China. China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs highlighted the importance of the bilateral trade relationship, noting a nearly 30% year‑on‑year increase in H1 2026. Brazil holds the largest individual quota of 1.1 million tonnes, and a 55% tariff will apply only to any volume exceeding the quota. The statements underscore growing cooperation between the two countries across technology governance and agricultural trade.
