Brazil and China expand cooperation in infrastructure and agricultural technology

Brazil and China are expanding bilateral cooperation across diverse sectors, ranging from large-scale infrastructure to advanced agricultural technology.

In the state of Maranhão, authorities are seeking to deepen economic ties with China in areas such as digital and logistical infrastructure, energy, and professional training. Discussions have highlighted major projects, including the Bipolo Graça Aranha (MA)-Silvânia (GO) electricity transmission venture, which carries an estimated investment of R$ 18 billion. These efforts follow a diplomatic mission to China aimed at identifying investment opportunities and strengthening ties with provinces such as Fujian.

Simultaneously, Embrapa has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with four Chinese institutions, including Nanjing Agricultural University and the Jiangsu Academy of Agricultural Sciences. This five-year partnership focuses on the co-development of artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies specifically for family farming. The agreement includes the creation of a Brazil-China Cooperation Center for AI Application and the implementation of pilot centers for intelligent agricultural machinery in Brazil, aiming to bridge the digital gap between small-scale and large-scale producers.
