Brazil and EU propose new consumer protection and labeling regulations

In Brazil, Bill 3169/26 is under analysis in the Chamber of Deputies, proposing mandatory labeling for products intended for infants, children, and pregnant women that contain endocrine disruptors. These chemical substances interfere with hormone regulation. The proposed rule would apply to cosmetics, personal hygiene items, food packaging, toys, and certain medications. Following a five-year transition period, the bill seeks to prohibit the manufacture and sale of products containing substances restricted by Anvisa, provided safe alternatives exist.

In the European Union, new consumer protection rules stemming from Directive (EU) 2024/825 will be implemented by member states starting September 27, 2026. These regulations aim to increase transparency regarding product durability and environmental claims. Consumers will benefit from harmonized information regarding commercial guarantees and clearer distinctions between voluntary manufacturer warranties and legal conformity guarantees. The measures are designed to support the ecological transition by providing more reliable information during the purchasing process.
