Mexican Supreme Court Halts Session for World Cup Match Against Czech Republic
The Supreme Court of Justice of the Nation (SCJN) announced that it will not hold its scheduled plenary session on Wednesday, 24 June 2024, because the Mexican national football team will play the World Cup group‑stage match against the Czech Republic. Minister President Hugo Aguilar Ortiz said the court will treat the day as a non‑working day, allowing staff to work remotely and avoid disruptions caused by the FIFA Fan Fest taking place at the Zócalo and related security measures.
The court’s internal bulletin noted that three pending matters will be addressed in later sessions and that the decision aims to prevent traffic and logistical problems while showing support for the national team. The suspension reflects the institution’s sensitivity to major cultural events that capture nationwide attention.
In a statement, Aguilar Ortiz added: “El Pleno ha determinado que el día de mañana sería un día inhábil, laborable a distancia,” emphasizing that the day will be observed as a non‑working day due to the circumstances surrounding the World Cup match.
