Brazil and Mozambique seek cooperation against drug trafficking

Authorities in Brazil and Mozambique are advocating for increased international cooperation to combat transnational organized crime and drug trafficking. Lincoln Gakiya, a prosecutor from São Paulo’s Special Action Group to Combat Organized Crime (Gaeco), highlighted the sophistication of Brazilian criminal factions, such as the Primeiro Comando da Capital (PCC) and Comando Vermelho (CV). He noted that cocaine from South American countries often moves through Southern Africa to reach international markets, including Europe.

In a related domestic enforcement action, the São Paulo Public Prosecutor's Office (MPSP) and the Federal Police launched ‘Operation YellowCode’ in São Paulo and Paraná. The operation targets a criminal organization suspected of interstate drug trafficking and money laundering. Investigators discovered that the group used household appliances to smuggle drugs, shipping packages ordered online from Foz do Iguaçu to various locations in São Paulo. The operation involves 14 temporary arrest warrants and 15 search and seizure warrants to dismantle the network's financial and logistical operations.
