Brazil and Peru launch Operation Amazonía 2026 against drug trafficking

The Brazilian Federal Police and the National Police of Peru (PNP) launched Operation Amazonía 2026 to combat transnational drug trafficking in the border region between the two nations. Conducted in the Mariscal Ramón Castilla Province within the Loreto Region of Peru, the operation involved 18 joint police actions utilizing both aerial and riverine assets.

The operation resulted in the arrest of four suspects and the destruction of significant quantities of narcotics and production materials. Authorities destroyed 11,961 kg of liquid cocaine sulfate, approximately 9.4 tons of coca leaves, and over 81,000 kg of both regulated and unregulated chemical inputs. Additionally, security forces neutralized 15 clandestine laboratories, five camps, and four illegal airstrips.

Other seizures included 19 firearms, 235 rounds of ammunition, 12 communication devices, and various vehicles, including 18 boats and a dredge used for illegal mining. To support the mission in remote areas, Brazil provided logistical assistance, including nearly 25,000 liters of aviation fuel and 4,000 liters of fuel for watercraft.
