Brazil and Türkiye sign nuclear energy cooperation agreement
The Brazilian Association for the Development of Nuclear Activities (ABDAN) and the Nuclear Industry Association of Türkiye (NIATR) have signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand cooperation in the civilian nuclear energy sector. The agreement aims to align the supply chains of both nations, stimulate bilateral trade, and foster joint investment opportunities.
The partnership includes plans for industrial joint ventures, developments in nuclear medicine, and the organization of sector-specific events. Governance will be managed through a steering group and specific action plans designed to convert institutional knowledge exchange into practical results for private companies.
This collaboration occurs as both countries seek to expand their nuclear ambitions. Brazil has committed to the COP28 initiative to triple global nuclear energy capacity by 2050 and is planning to increase its nuclear capacity significantly, with projections in the PNE 2055 reaching up to 14 GW. The agreement also touches on strategic topics such as small modular reactors (SMRs), energy security, and the role of nuclear technology in global decarbonization.
