Brazil and United States clash over revocation of Brazilian ambassador's US visa

President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva denounced the United States' decision to revoke the visa of Brazil's ambassador to Washington, Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, calling it an “irresponsible and thoughtless” act. The revocation was announced by the Trump administration after Brazil delayed confirming the appointment of the U.S. ambassador-designate, Daniel Pérez, to Brazil.

The United States said the visa would be reinstated once Brazil accepts Pérez’s credentials, while Brazil accused Washington of attempting to interfere in Brazil’s October presidential election. Lula warned that Brazil will not tolerate any foreign meddling in its electoral process and reiterated the need for mutual respect in diplomatic relations.

The dispute has heightened tensions between the two countries, with both sides exchanging accusations and demanding compliance with diplomatic protocols under the Vienna Convention.
