Brazil and US governments expand public access to UFO archives

Brazil’s National Archive maintains one of the world’s largest public collections on unidentified aerial phenomena, known as the UFO File. The archive holds 743 records spanning 1952‑2016, including photographs, videos, reports and documents from the Brazilian Air Force, covering historic incidents such as Operation Prato (1977) and the 1986 Official UFO Night. The material is publicly searchable through the Archive’s information system.

In the United States, the Pentagon announced the release of 40 newly declassified UFO‑related items, comprising four documents, 19 videos, four audio files and three images sourced from NASA, the CIA, the FBI, the Department of Energy and the Department of Defense. The release follows a March 2024 Pentagon report that found no evidence the anomalous phenomena are of extraterrestrial origin, attributing many sightings to balloons, spy aircraft or satellites. Both governments are increasing transparency around decades of UFO investigations.
