Brazil Announces 2026 Election Candidates for Presidency, Governors and Senate

Brazil's major political parties have confirmed their slates for the 2026 general election. The Workers' Party (PT) will field 13 candidates for state governor and 17 candidates for the Federal Senate, covering all five regions of the country. Notable PT governor candidates include incumbent governors Jerônimo Rodrigues (Bahia), Elmano de Freitas (Ceará), Rafael Fonteles (Piauí) and Fernando Haddad (São Paulo). Senate candidates feature former ministers Rui Costa, Jaques Wagner and incumbent senators such as Elizane Gama and Humberto Costa.

Eleven parties have also registered presidential candidates. Incumbent President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) will run for a fourth term with Geraldo Alckmin as his running mate. Other contenders include Senator Flávio Bolsonaro (PL), activist Renan Santos (Missão), former Goiás governor Ronaldo Caiado (PSD), former Minas Gerais governor Romeu Zema (Novo), PRTB leader Leonardo Avalanche, PCB candidate Edmilson Dias and PSTU's Hertz Dias. Party conventions must conclude by 5 July, after which the official candidate lists will be finalised.
