Brazil announces green tariff for February electricity rates
The National Electric Energy Agency (ANEEL) has announced that electricity consumers in Brazil will benefit from a ‘green flag’ tariff for February. This means there will be no additional costs for electricity consumption, maintaining a status quo that has persisted for 22 months.
The decision is driven by favorable hydroelectric generation conditions at the start of the year. Minister of Mines and Energy Alexandre Silveira noted that Brazil continues to serve as a global reference for renewable energy, citing the expansion of installed capacity in wind, solar, and hydroelectric power as key factors in ensuring energy security and tariff affordability.
