Brazil 2026 elections: Candidate registration deadline set for August 15 FAST-MOVING
As the 2026 general elections approach in Brazil, several critical deadlines and procedures have been established by the Electoral Justice. Parties, federations, and coalitions must submit their formal requests for candidate registration by 7:00 PM on August 15, 2026. This registration process is handled by the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) for presidential candidates and by Regional Electoral Courts (TREs) for other offices, including governors, senators, and deputies.
Of the 30 registered parties, 13 have confirmed candidates for the presidency. Official electoral campaigning is set to begin on August 16, 2026. The first round of voting is scheduled for October 4, with a potential second round on October 25.
Additionally, voters have until August 20 to request voting in transit, allowing them to vote in a different city on election day. This option is available in state capitals and municipalities with more than 100,000 voters. Brazilian citizens residing abroad may also vote in transit if they are in Brazil during the election, though they may only vote for the presidency.
