Brazil app delivery workers protest pay and new iFood “+Entrega” model

Delivery riders using app platforms are organizing a nationwide protest in Brazil. In João Pessoa, Paraíba, they plan a three‑day shutdown from July 31 to August 2, urging workers to keep apps off and demanding higher per‑kilometre rates, a minimum fare and revisions to subscription schemes such as Uber’s “Passe” and 99’s “Taxa Zero”.

In Joinville, Santa Catarina, riders have denounced iFood’s recently introduced “+Entrega” option, which pays a fixed R$14.31 plus R$4.00 per route – figures the workers say are far below the R$7.50 minimum fare. A courier known as “Ceará” warned that the scheme halves earnings and forces longer, fewer trips for those who do not join. Participants also call for city‑wide rest points and support stations. The coordinated actions could limit delivery services and increase waiting times for consumers across the country.
