Brazil Approves Federal University of Sport to Launch in 2027
Brazil's Senate voted on 16 April to approve the creation of the Federal University of Sport (UFEsporte), a new public institution linked to the Ministry of Education and based in Brasília, with plans for future expansion to other states. The law now awaits presidential sanction.
The university, slated to begin operations in early 2027 if regulatory steps progress as expected, will offer undergraduate, graduate and technological courses aimed at training managers, referees, coaches, researchers and other sports professionals. It will also focus on inclusion initiatives such as para‑sport, gender equity and racial equality. Funding is expected from the federal budget, contracts, services, grants and revenues from sports betting, subject to allocation in the Union's budget.
